Project Summary
This translational project develops a public-facing digital humanities platform focused on transportation risk, insurance, and inequality in California. Housed within UCLA’s Department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies, the project combines public humanities approaches with collaborative undergraduate research to make these infrastructures, which are often inaccessible outside technical and policy contexts, more visible and accessible beyond the university. The project will support development of the Insurance Research Lab website as a public dissemination platform featuring accessible creative outputs on topics such as uninsured driving, territorial pricing, and insurance redlining; public-facing student writing; visual timelines; and public humanities projects translating transportation inequity for broader audiences. By translating complex systems into accessible formats, the project seeks to expand public understanding of mobility inequity, non-physical transportation infrastructure, and governance in California.
