Project Summary
A lack of reliable and affordable transportation exacerbates socioeconomic inequities for low-income communities, especially people of color. Mobility wallets (MW) are a relatively new approach to addressing financial barriers to travel for the transport-disadvantaged, to be used at their discretion. A small but growing number of cities are administering mobility wallet pilots, but have a limited capacity to evaluate their results. In response, this project follows a group of mobility wallet recipients during the first phase of the LA mobility wallet program, interviewing recipients before, during, and after their participation. The interviews will capture information on the change in people’s travel behavior and related quality-of-life indicators throughout this period. This project will be complemented by work conducted by UC Davis surveying recipients and collecting data on travel behavior, access to opportunities, and transportation security.
