Project Summary

In the coming decades, advancements in connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) have the potential to transform communities and mobility. As these technologies progress, policymakers and practitioners will need tools and information to proactively design policies, actions, and practices that will avoid potential negative impacts and unintended consequences and facilitate sustainable and equitable outcomes.

This seed grant will fund an equity-focused automated vehicle incubator in three areas in California: rural San Joaquin Valley, Sacramento, and Los Angeles. This incubator will assess the different types of community transportation needs in rural, suburban, and urban contexts. It will also analyze if/how connected and automated vehicles close transportation gaps for communities and contribute to the development of high road jobs in these communities.
