Project Summary

Fuel cell vehicles require an entirely new network of refueling stations to support their market introduction. In California hydrogen infrastructure is being funded by government and industry. There are 40 stations currently in operation in California. In this study we aim to understand how fuel cell vehicle owners use these stations, how far they are willing to travel (from their normal travel routes) to refuel, why they choose to refuel at certain stations, whether stations allow them to undertake local and long distance travel, any gaps in station coverage for drivers, and where drivers want new infrastructure installed. All of which will be useful in long term planning of hydrogen infrastructure throughout the State. The results come from a questionnaire survey of fuel cell vehicle owners in California conducted by the plug-in hybrid & electric vehicle researcher center.
